Ongoing Middle East Security Situation Update
Update 31Mar 2026
As we move into the fourth week of the ongoing conflict between the US/Israel and Iran, there are still no clear indications of a near-term ceasefire. Although the direct operational impact—particularly on airfreight—remains relatively limited, the broader implications continue to expand across the global transportation sector. Recently, the focus has increasingly shifted toward rising oil prices and the resulting challenges.
It is evident that the global economy is beginning to feel the strain of higher energy costs, which are affecting growth forecasts for the remainder of 2026. As highlighted by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, the uncertainty surrounding both the duration and intensity of the conflict introduces significant downside risks, potentially leading to slower growth and increased inflation.
On the operational side, airfreight capacity is gradually stabilizing, with Middle Eastern airlines resuming both passenger and cargo services. However, the need for alternative shipping solutions remains essential. This applies to both air and ocean freight, where we have established clear contingency routing options along with their respective transit times.
At the same time, the situation remains highly volatile. A recent example was the missile strike on the Port of Salalah on March 28, which caused damage to port infrastructure, including a crane, and led carriers such as Maersk to temporarily halt operations for 48 hours. Incidents like this highlight how quickly disruptions can occur.
In light of these developments, we strongly encourage maintaining close communication, especially for time-sensitive shipments. Our team remains fully available to support you in evaluating and selecting the most suitable alternatives.
